Volunteering to Make a Difference in Kids Lives

There’s no better feeling than giving the gift of time to local students, and that’s exactly what the First Federal Lakewood team did! Two teams spent two separate mornings volunteering at Robert H. Jamison School and Northeast Ohio College Preparatory School for the Junior Achievement (JA) program.

JA is a non-profit organization with a mission to inspire and prepare young people to succeed. Volunteers are prepared by JA staff members to facilitate learning activities that focus on financial literacy, work and career readiness and entrepreneurship.

“The first team conducted classes with 4th through 7th grade students and enjoyed teaching and utilizing their professional expertise to provide students with real-world application of the curriculum,” said Chalana Williams, SVP, Chief Community Development Officer.

The second team visited Northeast Ohio College Preparatory School to volunteer with 1st through 8th grade students. Since that visit fell on Teacher Appreciation Week, the First Federal Lakewood team gifted each teacher a goodie bag to help celebrate them.

Both teams had eventful and productive mornings getting to know their assigned classrooms and walking through the JA curriculums.

“This was such a unique experience that provided a lot of value to the kids,” said Kayla Piunno, marketing account coordinator and volunteer.
